EVENT DATE: Aug 02, 2015
To celebrate our marriage union, we are hoping to raise $3,501 dollars* to bring a cow to New Vrindaban, West Virginia. This cow will otherwise be sold to a dairy, used for milk and breeding (often in cruel and inhumane conditions) and then sent to a horrific slaughter. Krishna (God) is a cowherder, who protected and loved these gentle creatures, and is often depicted surrounded by them. The cow is the giver of life sustaining milk, a nurturing mother. The bull, the father and worker, plows the fields for our food. Together they embody love, family and community, and we honor them with the reverence and respect that reflects Krishna's dedication and care for their being.
Knowing that our union helped to save even one of these beautiful animals would bring us joy, and we would share the love for this special rescue with you in our hearts and prayers. Hare Krishna.
"There is no gift that is higher in merit than the gift of cows." -- Vedic Scriptures
*the extra dollar is considered auspicious - also thought to symbolize reciprocity, the idea that when you give an extra dollar as a "loan" the borrower will have to see you again.
