I decided to start training to qualify for the 2018 Boston Marathon in early 2016. I researched marathons across the country to find the best marathon before September, 2017, the Boston Marathon qualifying cut-off date, and decided to run the Mountains2Beach Marathon in Ventura, CA in May, 2017. I began training in December and ran more than 500 miles over the next five months. The marathon was one of the most physically challenging experiences of my life, but I finished almost a full five minutes before the official qualifying time.
I am dedicating my race to Back on My Feet, a non-profit organization that —literally and figuratively— helps individuals experiencing homelessness get back on their feet. Since launching in 2007, members find employment, independent housing or enter into education and training programs. I am certain that my younger brother, Robb, who suffered from schizophrenia and died in 1993, would have been homeless if not for the support of our family.
I have pledged to raise $7500 for this worthwhile cause, but I can only do it with your support. I hope you will make a fully tax-deductible donation of any size to help me reach my goal.
Thanks in advance for your generosity!
