I was blessed to have finished the 2013 Boston Marathon about 40 minutes before the bombs exploded near the finish line. Memories from that day are still so polarizing that it's difficult to only think about the joy and elation without remembering the fear and terror. Covering the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston among a sea of 27,000 runners while high-fiving as many excited kids as possible truly made my spirit soar and helped keep my legs pumping. Then all too soon, the sounds of sirens and screams replaced the cheering and clapping left echoing in my head while walking away from the finish line. Shortly after the race, I began to write a narrative about my Boston Marathon experience and had it published to Boston Magazine's website. To read my accounts of the day, go to: http://www.bostonmagazine.com/shoes/scott-herman/ or to see the full collection of stories: http://www.bostonmagazine.com/shoes/
As soon as I read about the Boston Marathon World Run, I wanted to start a team to give back to those most affected on the day I ran the race that would inevitably change my life. Thank you so much for joining me on this journey.
