BENEFITING: Light of Life Ministries
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
Running has always been a selfish endeavor for me. I don't mean that in a negative way, but I've always run for me. It's always been about setting personal goals and achieving personal accomplishments... "Can I be better in this run today than I was yesterday?"
I've run 2 marathons, 3 half marathons, 2 Ragnar Relays (189 mile team relays), and a whole slew of 5k and 10k races... to prove to myself that I could do it.
While I truly believe that there is nothing wrong with achieving personal goals in all that we do every day, I've been trying to find ways to help others in the things I do.
I was thrilled to stumble upon the option of raising money for and running for a cause in the 2016 Pittsburgh Half Marathon rather than just register on my own. I chose the Light of Life Rescue Mission in the North Side of Pittsburgh. It's a mission that is centered around Christ that reaches out to and takes in the poor, addicted, abused, and needy. Trying to describe the charity to you in detail in my own words won't do it justice... If you have 10 minutes, this video really gives you a good idea of the wonderful services that this ministry provides... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2T504RMDUI
The fact that I can take something that I love and that has always been about me and make it all about anything but me is something that I am thrilled for and about.
The fundraising goal set forth by Light of Life and the Pittsburgh Marathon group is $350. My goal is to reach and hopefully exceed $500. I know that everyone and their mother is asking for money these days, but any and all help is greatly appreciated and goes to serving an absolutely amazing cause. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your consideration.
