Dear Friend,

I hope this letter finds you well. As you may know, I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the West Central Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross. The Red Cross is an organization that is near and dear to my heart. I have seen, first hand, the help and compassion the Red Cross and its volunteers provide people in need. Whether due to fire, tornado, national disaster, or helping military families your local chapter plays a major role in making Columbus and the valley area a better place to live.

This Monday, we launched a community wide campaign to raise awareness of the work that we do and to promote our local Hometown HEROES.

Imagine awakening in the middle of the night to see smoke seeping into your bedroom and you realize your home is on fire. You have seconds to get your family out safely. Unfortunately, this nightmare is a reality for hundreds of individuals and families living in our community year after year. In many cases, these families have lost everything and have nowhere to turn. These are the “silent” disasters that never make the news; yet the Red Cross is there ready to provide immediate assistance during this time of crisis.

For 97 years the West Central Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross has been at the forefront of these disasters and others.

• This past year, the West Central Georgia Chapter recruited over 350 volunteers and responded to 84 house and apartment fires in the Columbus and surrounding areas helping 97 families meet their urgent needs, including a comfortable place to stay, hot meals, safe drinking water, new clothing, and the replacement of medicines and eyeglasses.

• We provide blood and blood products to medical facilities treating these victims; handle inquiries from concerned family members outside of disaster areas; and help victims access other available resources necessary for their recovery.

• Ft. Benning and our military families deserve our support and your chapter demonstrates that support every day, briefing over 52,000 new soldiers and connecting 2,802 military families last year alone.

• We are also working to provide disaster preparedness kits to military families and hosting events supporting nearly 500 wounded warriors at the Warrior Transition Battalion.

Through this work, the West Central Georgia Chapter has had the honor to serve alongside local heroes every day. I have committed to be a Hero for the Red Cross and raise $1,000 before June 30th. Would you help me reach my goal by donating $50 or more? If you are able to help, please here and make your secure online donation.
