Scott's Rally Against Lung Cancer
Organized by: Ashley Alberts
We are normally the family to give donations to people who are in need and never ask for help. Unfortunately, we are in major need of help at this time. My family has had a very rough few years to say the least. My mom, Sabine, is 52 years old and was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in August of 2015. It was a 2 year long process to get a diagnosis as she is so young for this disease. Due to her having this form of dementia, her mental and physical health has been declining rapidly and she requires care 24/7. Scott, my stepdad, has devoted his life to my mom. He works 60+ hours between his full time job and an auto shop he has at home to provide just enough to get by. Then he takes care of my mom which is by all means not easy at all. He is living up to his vows of "for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness, and in health." He has never given up on her and has stayed right by her side. Jeremy, my husband, and I have been trying to help as much as possible with assisting in the care for my mom, but with raising 3 young boys this becomes very difficult at times. Scott has always been my second dad and my 3 boys Bop-Bop. My boys, Chase, Wyatt, and Mason, love their Gamma and Bop-Bop so much! Due to Scott having to care so much for my mom he hasn't been able to take care of himself. Over the past couple months Scott had a cough but he just blamed the winter season and the fact that he's a smoker. Last Sunday, Feb. 21, we all came over for dinner and everything seemed ok Scott just had a worse cough. I received a phone call from Scott Monday morning saying that he was in the ER because he couldn't breathe. He ended up having pneumonia and a mass on his right lung. He had to have his lung drained, which ended up being 1 liter of fluid, and they also took biopsies. He was admitted for 4 days and the biopsies came back positive for cancer. There were tests the following days and they revealed Stage 4 Lung cancer and it has spread to other parts of his body. He will be starting Chemotherapy this next week. This has now caused Scott to stop working which leaves no income for them to live by. As it was already a struggle going from 2 incomes to 1 and now none is just going to be next to impossible. Jeremy and I have been helping as much as possible, but unfortunately we can't take on their bills on top of ours. Any donation would help go towards chemo treatments and appointments, assisted living home cost for my mom, mortgage, and everyday costs to keep a roof over their head. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping my family in their time of need!
