BENEFITING: Pajama Program, Inc.
Having recently lost my most special friend to a courageous battle with cancer, I wanted to honor her memory in some unique and ongoing way. For several years I have supported the 100 Good Nights program through the purchase of pajamas from Carter's as Christmas gifts. As an extension, Carter's and Scholastic have joined to sponsor The Pajama Program. Simply stated, they provide new pajamas and new books to needy children. Additionally, they sponsor a reading center where children can delight in 70 minutes of one on one reading time, a healthy snack and take home a new book of their choice along with new pajamas. This charity receives four stars from an independent evaluation by Charity Navigator. This assures donors that their contributions are focused on the cause rather than the administration of it. In fact, 93.6% of your donation is utilized directly for the goods and services provided to the Pajama Program's recipients. Well into her final days, MarySue was engaged with the written word, whether through letters she wrote to loved ones or reading to her grandchildren. She had retired as a much loved and highly respected public school educator having served her community by nurturing little lives through early childhood education for 34 years. Her dedication was celebrated with the distinction of Teacher of the Year. Prior to her illness, it was not uncommon to find her in the classroom reading to her daughter's students. MarySue and I shared a fondness for shopping for clothes for little people. While there are other charities named to remember this special woman, all of which are worthwhile, The Pajama Program offers the personal connection I was seeking. There are several ways to donate, but I discovered this way through their website and thought, why not share the opportunity. Donations can be small or large, named or anonymously given. Even if you are not inclined to contribute, please share because that helps. Please visit www.pajamaprogram.org to learn more
