How the Saving Pass Works!
July 17, 2017
BENEFITING: Sculptors Guild Inc
EVENT DATE: Jul 11, 2017
The Sculptors Guild is a NYC treasure. It is an artist-run organization that promotes interest in contemporary sculpture and has been serving the New York City area for 80 years, offering exhibitions in alternative spaces as well as museums and providing educational outreach. The importance of this organization was recently summarized by Brienne Walsh, an art critic and historian: "So much of what makes New York special are the artists who have been drawn here for the past century. Without artists, the city would have no soul. Traditionally, they have not been artists who want to make money, or become famous, but rather to have the freedom to make work that is important to them within a community that supports and encourages their practices. This is part of why I admire the Sculptors Guild so much." As we celebrate our 80th year, we are especially looking to preserve our history and that of so many artists who have contributed to the richness of the art world in New York—the unsung artists and teachers in addition to the well-known names: Louise Bourgeois, Jose de Rivera, Lin Emery, Carole Feuerman, Chaim Gross, Ibram Lassaw, Barbara Lekberg, Jaques Lipchitz, Louise Nevelson, George Rickey, Renata Schwebel, David Smith, Jean Woodham, and William Zorach. We appreciate any amount that you can contribute to fund our educational events, support our office space and fund exhibitions.
