Hello friends, family, and all,
On October 18th I will be completing a life goal to run a marathon through the Waddell and Reed Kansas City Marathon. In addition to my running efforts, I’ve also started this fundraiser to help improve water quality in Nicaragua with the organization EOS (Emerging Opportunities for Sustainability).
Throughout my life I have been active in sports – Cross Country and Track in high school, as well as Judo and recreational running in college. I have discovered over the years that in addition to the rewards of dedication and intense training, what’s really meaningful is the character you cultivate, the relationships you develop, and how all of this carries over to improve your life and the lives of others.
Since graduating from Iowa State, I am looking for ways to stay active and give back. With this fundraising I hope you will join me in helping to make a difference. All of the funds raised here will go towards improving the quality of water for rural communities in Nicaragua. This will be accomplished with water chlorinator technology, helping to reduce the risk of water borne illnesses. It costs about $200 to install one chlorinator; chlorinators serve 200 to 1000 people, and EOS is trying to raise at least $5000 for 25 chlorinators this summer.
EOS International is an organization started in 2008 by Iowa State Engineering Alumni. To date it has empowered over 90,000 Nicaraguans. This is accomplished through application of technologies such as drip irrigation systems, solar electric systems, and fuel-efficient ovens; local people are also trained in the maintenance and operation of these to ensure their sustainability. More information about EOS can be found here:
During college I participated in a service/immersion trip to Honduras, and saw firsthand some of the hardships Central American countries face. Through this fundraiser I hope to give back and help improve the quality of life in one of the poorest countries of Central America. As I prepare to reach my goal of running 26.2 miles, I also hope to achieve my goal of fundraising at least $300 for EOS International. Please consider donating to such a worthy cause. Whether it is a donation of $1 or $20, every little bit counts (and is tax deductible).
