SEALNet Project Vietnam 2014 (PV'14) focuses on self-belief development for two groups of youth: Vietnamese children living in shelters and Vietnamese and Cambodian high school students.

By partnering with Green Bamboo Shelter and Little Rose Shelter, we hope to inspire the children from these shelters to believe in themselves, have trust in the people aroud them and have faith in their future. We also set out to empower the Vietnamese and Cambodian students in our project to get more engaged in their community and become real social change agents.

Our team consists of 20 college students from 8 countries coming together in the shared passion for service leadership and the mutual aspiration to contribute our best to the growth of Southeast Asia.

What we are trying to achieve:

For the children living in Green Bamboo and Little Rose shelter, we aim to bring out the best potential in them by connecting and motivating them on a personal level. Through multiple approaches, from arts to community service activities, we hope to nurture in them the firm belief that they have the capacities and support to succeed in life just like anyone else.

For the high school students from Vietnam and Cambodia, we look forward to building a platform where students from both countries will feel empowered to make social impact and inspired to enhance cross-nation collaboration. Under close guidance of the mentor team and through a variety of leadership workshops, added by interactions with the children living in the shelter, those high school students are encouraged to leave the project feeling confident in their ability to step up and take action for their causes.

How we are going to acheive:

a. Leadership Training

- Organize workshops and group activities to help the high school students develop and improve necessary leadership skills

- Create hands-on challenges for the students to apply what they learn into practice, to learn by actions not just words

b. Community Outreach
- Involve the children from care shelter in educational workshops (music, science, English, etc.), personal reflection and connection-building activities

- Run a charity kitchen where the children and project members will cook together and distribute the food to children living on the streets

c. Cultural Exchange
- Homestay program: the Cambodian students will be arranged to stay overnight at a Vietnamese student’s house for two days so that they can gain a real taste of local life

- Various cultural sharing sessions and performances among all team members
