BENEFITING: International Medical Corps
Hi! In case you don't know me, I'm Sean Casey and I am the Senior Global Operations Adviser for International Medical Corps. My job takes me all over the world, responding immediately to earthquakes, cyclones and disease outbreaks wherever they may happen. After 10 years of working in humanitarian response and international development all over the world, I decided that it was time for me to ease up on the junk food and beer that so often comes with “field” life and focus on getting fit. My work takes me to difficult places at difficult times, but the beauty of running is that you can do it just about anywhere. I’ve grown to love running, so I registered for five marathons over the next year – from Shiraz to Persepolis in Iran; across Easter Island in Chile; around Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik; on glaciers in the Arctic Circle in Greenland; and finally on a floating ice sheet at the North Pole in April 2017! Over the course of the next year, I won’t just be running for fitness and for the adventure. I hope to use all of this effort to raise awareness of the work that my colleagues and I do at International Medical Corps, and to raise funds that will allow us to continue responding to crises wherever they are. I am aiming to raise $25,000 for International Medical Corps by the time I land at the North Pole next April. These funds will allow us to respond immediately to natural disasters, disease or people caught up in war and conflict by flying in volunteer doctors, sending vital medicines and training communities to be prepared for future disasters. I believe in our work around the world, and I can vouch for the importance of these funds – especially as I am often the one managing them! Will you join me in raising awareness for International Medical Corps? Please share my story with your friends and family and please, make a donation to give lifesaving care to those who need it most. See you on the trail!
