Seattle Stands With Haiti: Hurricane Matthew Relief Drive

Time for Seattle to stand with the people of Haiti!
On October 6th, Hurricane Matthew slammed the country of Haiti, leaving utter devastation in its wake. The estimated death toll is now above 1,000, primarily in Southern Haiti. Many people have lost their homes, and do not have access to food, electricity, and medicine. Millions have been affected! There is a dire need for emergency relief in Haiti in the form of donated goods, medical care, volunteers and financial assistance.
My name is Naika. I am a medical student here in Seattle, with strong familial ties and roots in Haiti. The Hurricane Matthew devastation in Haiti is close to my heart, as it has severely damaged the town of Les Cayes, which happens to be the hometown of my mother, my grandmother and my great grandmother. This leaves not only a physical loss, but a mental, emotional, and generational loss as well.
It will take quite a while for Haiti to heal and rebuild on many levels. But it will happen, with many hands. In Haiti there is a saying, “Men anpil, chay pa lou!”. This roughly translates to “Many hands make light work”.
Will you lend a helping hand?
I would love for Seattle to show love to Haiti and to make a statement that we are here to respectfully assist the people of Haiti, by standing in solidarity with Haitian led organizations, that are currently conducting effective relief work right now!
Here’s what we’re doing to make a difference!
In Seattle, we are working collectively as a community to reach out to those in need. We are collecting emergency kits, baby food, tents, tarps, non-perishable goods, medicine, batteries, flashlights, water purification tablets, and so much more to facilitate the normal activities of daily living of the Haitian people, as well as overall survival during this critical emergency.
Will you consider making an impact in the lives of the Haitian community?
A financial donation, however small, can make all the difference!
Where your money is going:
- Towards shipping costs, which will facilitate the distribution of emergency relief goods to Haiti via Sow A Seed Foundation
-It costs hundreds of dollars to send so much weight overseas, and we need your help!
- Towards a lump sum cash donation to be made to Sow A Seed Foundation.
- Once the shipping of emergency materials is covered, 100% of your financial contribution will be donated directly to this Haitian organization.
What a privilege it is to be able to assist others in their time of need!
Will you help us help Haiti?
God bless you, God bless Seattle and God bless Haiti!
