BENEFITING: Food Lifeline
For our August Seattle Super Saturday, we're going to be highlighting a really cool charity called Food Lifeline. They work with the food industry and its surpluses and come up with creative solutions to stopping hunger, including redirecting good food from manufacturers, farmers, grocery stores and restaurants that might otherwise go to waste.
They provide 91,000 meals a day to local food assistance programs, and that, combined with their policy work, creates a sustainable approach to stopping hunger. Did you know that close to 40% of usable produce goes to waste? With so much waste in America and a huge hunger problem (especially in the Seattle area), this is a great cause for us to be supporting!
Food Lifeline is Western Washington’s brand of hunger relief—one that applies creativity and ingenuity to an age-old problem. They connect the food industry’s surpluses to our network of food programs that get it right to hungry people. By capturing this food, Food Lifeline can provide five complete meals for every $1 we spend.
Hosting a virtual food drive will save us the responsibility of moving heavy food drive boxes, will allow Food Lifeline to save on resources and get the most-needed items to hungry people. And because of their unparalleled efficiency, Food Lifeline will be able to provide five complete meals for what it would cost you to purchase one can of food. Hosting a virtual drive will also allow us to share with others, outside of our Beachbody Community. If we all share this on our social media platforms, think of how much exposure this great cause will receive!
Let's come together Team Beachbody style and support this wonderful, local - cause!
