HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT US: This coming year, a group of Seattle generative somatics students will be heading to the San Francisco Bay Area to continue learning how to be more effective movement workers and transformative healers. For Seattle students to participate, we have to pay for travel costs, food, accommodations, and course fees. For many of us, the costs represent a significant amount of our yearly income at an average cost of $2,733 per person.
We’re turning to our community to ask for support so that we, in turn, can continue to support you and build transformative movements and communities here. Any amount is useful and powerful!

Who we are: We are made up of community organizers, youth-workers, therapists, lawyers, farmers and people from all sectors of our community. For the past several years, over 40 of us have been training to become more effective agents of change through the organization Generative Somatics.
What it is: Somatics is an approach to healing that uses daily practices and hands-on body work to support individuals in their healing. When trauma happens repeatedly or systemically - through racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. - our bodies create many complex ways to keep us safe. We learn to fight, we learn to freeze or disappear, we learn to numb ourselves or dissociate, and we learn to appease. As a result, coping mechanisms that are designed for our survival also limit our ability to connect, make a broad array of choices, and envision and enact better futures for ourselves and our communities.
What We’re Building: As social and environmental justice activists, artists, healers, and community leaders, the Seattle somatics community seeks to build healing into all facets of our daily lives. We aim to support our community in learning and remembering skills to maintain relationships and movements that cultivate safety, dignity, and connection. We aim to stop cycles of abuse and violence and replace them with visionary healing that is rooted in what we long for. We aim to make healing accessible so that those who need it most don’t have to leave their communities to be cared for. We’re building our movements from the inside out so that they are resilient, long-lasting, accountable, and ultimately deeply transformative.
