Carrie Ann Cleveland wrote -On May 3 and 4 our team 65 Roses for Aimee will be running a 191 mile relay through 36 cities from Calistoga, across the Golden Gate Bridge and finishing in Santa Cruz to promote awareness of the need for organ donation, and to benefit Aimee Driscoll, a 29 year old woman from Maine who is in need of a double lung transplant due to Cystic Fibrosis.
During the Golden Gate Relay, California's longest party, passing the baton to each team mate will symbolize the transferring of an organ from donor to recipient. The GG Relay is dedicated to Aimee Driscoll who has cystic fibrosis and is in need of a new set of lungs.
This event is hosted by Organs R Us. FOUNDED in 1996, Organs R Us which promotes organ donation through athletics. Of 125,000 Americans waiting for transplants, 20 die each day before a donor is found. Discuss your wishes regarding organ donation with your family and register online to be an organ donor.
Today, we're running for Aimee. She has a loving husband, Peter and a wonderful 5 year old son Liam who is facing his own challenges with Autism. Cystic fibrosis is a terminal illness that currently has no cure which primarily affects the lung function of the individual as well the immune system and ability to put on and maintain weight.
Cystic Fibrosis is a dibiltating disease that causes extreme shortness of breath, fatigue, severe coughing spells, the need for oxygen tanks, and a staggering daily dose of various medications.
Aimee is in desperate need of a double lung transplant as this is the only hope she has at extending her time here. She wants to be here to raise and care for her son. Few people in this world are as selfless and kind as Aimee, a truly deserving woman with a lot at stake. She touches the heart of everyone she meets and like a soldier tries to take on not only her own plight and that of her son without ever asking for help, but also the troubles of her close friends and family as well. This young lady deserves a second chance; her son deserves a mother.
The Second Chances team is comprised of members of Aimee’s immediate family, friends and generous volunteers. We are committed to this cause and determined to raise the $300,000 needed to fund the transplant Aimee so desperately needs… and soon. By spreading awareness and continuously organizing fun and exciting fundraising events as well as ongoing donation efforts we will succeed.
Organs R Us and the Second Chances foundation are working together to generate publicity about the shortage of organ donors, and to raise funds for those in facing the costs of organ transplants
Thanks in advance for your support of the 125,000 Americans waiting for organ transplants.
With your help, we can make a difference!
