EVENT: Saving Pets Challenge 2016
EVENT DATE: Jul 05, 2016
Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue (SCSCR) is a volunteer-only non-profit organization with a mission to rescue and rehabilitate special-needs cats, provide free and low-cost spay/neuter services to the local community, and assist people who need help keeping their pets during difficult life situations.
Our rescue is no-kill, meaning we only euthanize animals that are in untreatable pain or suffering from disease. This also means that we must limit our admissions, and can only accept cats into the rescue when some of our current cats are adopted into loving homes.
Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue began rescuing cats in 1999, with a focus on orphaned kittens. Beginning in 2005, SCSCR shifted its priorities towards senior and other special needs animals. At that time the rescue was run purely from foster homes.
In December of 2009, SCSCR officially became a corporation, and began gaining financial support from local community members.
In May 2011 we began our community spay/neuter initiative, offering free spay/neuter surgeries to cats and dogs owned by low-income families. Since the beginning of this program we have provided over 2,500 surgeries to dogs and cats in Northeast Wyoming.
In 2013 we opened our public Adoption Center, which gave our cats and our organization much greater community exposure. Our adoption rates increased dramatically and have continued to increase in subsequent years. In 2015, we had nearly as many cat adoptions as the local public animal shelter.
SCSCR receives no city or county funding and we rely entirely on public donations and grants.
