From September 2013-January 2014, our Second Wind project funded and built six single-occupancy 16’x20’ year-round cottages for formerly homeless men. Our initial 6 cottages were completed and occupied on 1/24/14. We have engaged the services of an engineer who's developed a site plan for up to 18 similar cottages and a larger community building, to be built in phases.
This year (2014) we plan to build several more cottages. We’ve already received a $15,000 grant from the Triad Foundation and over $10,500 from the Maguire Family of Dealerships to fund new construction. We’ve also received $15,000 from an annonymous private donor to fund a new cottage, and we plan to raise more private funds to build additional 2014 cottages. With fully-donated labor, and significant discounts on materials, we estimate construction costs of each cottage at $15,000 — not including initial site-costs and utility installation.
Our Second Wind Cottages Board has now hired two professional staff members (part-time) to work with the residents one-on-one and as a group, to build a healthy sense of community and mutual support. Our Staff Counselor has a PsyD in Psychology and is funded through a generous anonymous endowment. Our Case Worker has escaped drug addiction, owned private businesses, and done volunteer visiting the county jail on a weekly basis for several years.

It is important to note that, although the Community Faith Partnership is a faith-based organization, no decision about housing new residents will be made on the basis of issues of faith, nor will religious practices be required of any resident as a condition of residency.
Second Wind Cottages are located on the TCAT bus line at 1435 Elmira Rd, Newfield.
