Secret Forest Playschool is a nature preschool (in Duluth, MN) that believes in building a community, with children and their families, that instills a lifelong love for play, a strong sense of self and a growing relationship with the natural world. Playschool values fresh air, experience, trust and wholeness.
In September of 2012, Secret Forest Playschool put roots down at Eastridge Community Church and opened its doors with only two families enrolled. Though it didn't take long for the program reach its full capacity by January 2013. There was no question about it Secret Forest was a special place that understood the importance of preserving childhood.
Today, Secret Forest Playschool serves twenty 3-6 year olds with their full-day, year-round programing. As the program has grown and the decision to build its very own Classroom Cottage has been made! The Cottage will complement the natural environment that the children already spend a majority of the day in by giving them a place of security and sense of belonging.
The Classroom Cottage will be a nestled into the Maples in the Secret Forest where children are nurtured, where they will learn and grow and where they will make memories. From smelling the rain as they paint a picture on the covered porch, to bringing a small caterpillar inside to observe it as it takes on a new life, to harvesting food from the garden and preparing it in the kitchen, to counting the snowflakes as they fall, this sweet, little Cottage is going to be a place that children will feel at home and it will be someplace that they will return to for years to come.
The goal is to have the Cottage built by fall, 2016. Money raised through fundraising from Secret Forest Playschool's families and friends will go directly towards the Classroom Cottage building fund at Eastridge Community Church: building fees/permits and the labor and materials. If there happens to be more money than what the original plans call for any additional funds raised will go towards a 16' glass panel garage door that would allow us to open our classroom wall to nature! Every bit helps.
Thank you for your consideration and remember to never stop dreaming.
