BENEFITING: American Thyroid Association, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
i was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism last year. I have gone through the following:
-weighed 110 pounds
-heartbeat at 125 beats a minute while sitting
-trembling hands just to name a FEW of the many other problems..
I was diagnosed w hyperthyroidism. Didn't go to Dr until suddenly 1 week, I could not get up from bed. I could not even support my weight and fell to my knees. And a diet of over 4,000 calories a day only to continue to drop weight. Was told my levels were off the charts. Facing heart attacks and seizures and radiation treatment and just overall life-threatening at age 27. Not to mention an unrelated but coincidental white spots that basically started taking over my body. 6 months later of hard work, I have slowly taken back my body. For the first time in 4 years, I built muscle mass, gained weight, heartbeat was cut close to half speed and I feel great. Never again take my body for granted. For many of those people who suffer the aches and pains of hypo or hyper thyroid, this run would be for you. A guy who could barely stand and support his own weight a year ago to a changed man who WILL finish ALL 26.2 miles of the race. It wont be easy, but that's the whole point. I would also like to run in the NYC 2014 marathon as a personal accomplishment of how i far i have come. I had lost the battle, but was not going to lose the war on my body. thank you.
