The SEED Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that uses basketball as a hook to engage Senegalese youth in academic and leadership development programing. Founded in 2002, SEED Project serves 500 youth a year (grades 6-12) with basketball training, academic tutoring, English language classes and leadership development activities. SEED works with each student to help them graduate high school, matriculate to college, and develop a sense of resonsibility to give back to their community, country, and continent. Ultiamtely, SEED aspires to develop socially conscous role models that will be the next generation of African leaders.
In a country where 60% of the population is under 24 and only 11% of students attend high school and 5% attend college, SEED has sent 75% of its alums to colleges and universities throughout the world. More than 100 students have successfully matriculated to college, including 26 currently attending school in the U.S. and 4 in Senegal.
