BENEFITING: CHAMPAIGN COUNTY HEALTH CARE CONSUMERS
EVENT DATE: Oct 17, 2015
My name is Jen. I am a runner. When I was 19, I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 disorder. Running is one of the ways I stay both physically and mentally healthy. I'm running to raise money for Champaign County Health Care Consumers. While this is not my first not my longest race, this race has the most personal meaning because I am running in memory of Rich McNally.
** UPDATE (10/4/15): While I have trained to run this event as my second full marathon, due to respiratory health issues, I will be running the half-marathon event. I believe this compromise will be best for my recovery and will still allow me to run in Rich's memory. I hope you will consider supporting my run regardless! **
As most of you know, I am a Community Organizer and coordinator of one of the service programs at Champaign County Health Care Consumers.
I believe that mental health care (psychiatry, therapy, substance abuse treatment, etc.) is a critical part of a comprehensive approach to health care. This year, we lost our good friend Rich McNally to mental health and substanse abuse issues.
I had known Rich many years through mutual friends, often seeing him at meetings or at the local mental health center. He was a friend, a lover of the Grateful Dead, and a good soul. Honestly, I can't think of a nicer, kinder person than Rich. And he absolutely loved CCHCC for all the work we did, whether helping him navigate the health care system or carrying on the struggle against medical debt and for better access to quality, affordable health care. We had many conversations about CCHCC earlier this year before he died in March.
Please join me in supporting Champaign County Health Care Consumers, in honor of Rich McNally, as I get ready to run the Indianapolis half-marathon.
If you donate $1 for each mile I will run, CCHCC receives $13.10.
If you donate $5 for each mile I will run, CCHCC receives $65.50.
If you donate $10 for each mile I will run, CCHCC receives $131.
Or whatever amount you feel comfortable with. You get the idea!
All donations are tax-deductible.
Your donation will help someone in the Champaign County region access the health care that they need, whether it's being able to afford their prescriptions, finding afforable dental care, obtaining health insurance, applying for hospital financial assistance, and much more.
Rest in peace, Rich.
