BENEFITING: UNICEF USA
EVENT DATE: Jul 22, 2014
We're so excited to raise money for UNICEF in honor of Selena's 22nd birthday! Selena has been a long time supporter of UNICEF and all that they do since the start of her career. According to UNICEF's mission statement, they "work for the survival, protection and development of children worldwide through fundraising, advocacy and education." They have saved more children's lives than any other humanitarian organization.
Selena started with UNICEF in 2008 when she became the spokesperson for Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF, a program that encourages kids to raise money for the organization on Halloween. She reprised the role again the following two years.
In 2009, at the age of 17, Selena became the youngest UNICEF ambassador ever. In the same year she traveled to Ghana to see the work UNICEF does for children of the country. In 2011, she went to Valparaiso, Chile for a visit with the children and families being helped by "Programa Puente."
Selena has also supported many other UNICEF campaigns over the years such as Sahel Now, 12 Days for UNICEF, UNICEF Tap Project Celebrity Tap Campaign, and the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF Month of Giving.
She has held three charity concerts raising over $500,000 for the organization.
Most recently, in May 2014, she traveled to Nepal for her third field visit to see UNICEF's work and to bring attention to children in need within the country and across the globe. To read more and see pictures/videos of her visit click here.
We at selenamgomez.net, with the help of all of Selena's amazing and dedicated fans, hope we can raise money for the cause and look forward to a successful campaign!
