Organized by: Ana Barreto
I am almost there! Thank you!
June 29, 2016
Dear amazing friends and supporters,
WHO I AM: I am Ana Barreto, I have been working for the promotion of human rights and culture of peace, especially in Latin America. During my graduate studies I was a member of several research groups that analyzed poverty, violence, genocide, diplomacy, and tolerance. In addition to this we also analyzed the Middle East, international conflicts, gender equality and race issues, which has provided me a good comprehension of the complexity of international affairs.
MY TRIP: From July 17 to July 30, 2016 I will join an Interfaith Peace-Builders delegation to Israel/ Palestine. The delegation will consist of 15-20 individuals of many faiths, traveling to Israel and the West Bank. The goals of the delegation are to witness the ongoing conflict and occupation, support human rights activities in the region, and return home and educate Americans about the conflict and the government’s involvement in the region. Some of the highlights of our delegation will be meetings with Israeli and Palestinian peace activists, political and religious leaders; homestays in both Palestinian and Israeli homes, and the chance to visit several holy sites. To learn more about this organization, please visit www.ifpb.org.
WHY I AM GOING? I’m going because I want learn about the reality of life in Israel/Palestine, especially the reality of the most vulnerable who face this terrible conflict every day and still have resilience, strength and hope. It is my expectation that by being present with other concerned individuals, I can add my voice to those people working to end the violence and establish a just and peaceful resolution.
MY SOCIAL PROJECT: As part of this journey, I will develop a digital book which aims to empower and give voice to the experience of the Palestinian people living in the conflict, especially women. I will also organize an online art exhibition with pictures taken by Palestinian artists and audio clips produced during the visit. I am excited and humbled by this opportunity, which is deeply important to me personally and as an international development professional.
Thanks so much for your support!
