Send Lisette to NYC for dance classes
Organized by: Lisette Keating
3 Weeks and Counting!
May 14, 2017
My name is Lisette Keating. That's me in the picture.
My dad is an artist and my mom is a singer. That's our whole family. A year ago, we moved from California to New Mexico. I lived in California my whole life and wasn't optimistic about moving away from the only home I had ever know.
I started high school at Sante Fe High a week or so after the move. I missed my friends back home. I missed my life and like a lot of kids starting high school, I was unsure about my future.
That's when I fell in love.
I joined a dance class at the high school and suddenly I felt as if I could breathe again. I began to find my way and discovered a talent within me that I didn't even know was there. When I danced, I didn't feel like I was dancing in New Mexico, I was just . . . dancing.
My teacher encouraged me as I found a place where I made sense, where I knew I belonged. (That's me on the left warming up with my friend before ballet class.) In the Spring, The Dance Club from Santa Fe High School is going to New York City to take professional classes, see performances on Broadway and explore the possibilities that await us there. I want to go, but the trip is expensive and I won't be able to go without your help.
So far, I've raised $128 from participating in school fundraisers. My mom has chipped in all of the money from her singing jobs and I've added $160 in babysitting money to the pot! I've got a long way to go. The tour company gets installments along the way. The next payment of $923 is due on November 29th, with more payments in February and March.
I'm asking for your help because, my Mom & Dad will loose the deposit money if we can't make all of the payments on time. My Mom is a chaperone on the trip so we can bring 16 dancers from my high school to New York City. We will continue to sell candy, have car washes, rummage sales, restaurant nights and even sing Christmas carols at the mall in an effort to meet our goals!
It would mean the world to me if my friends (and their friends) and my family (and their friends) could chip in a bit. Every little bit will help, even a dollar. It all adds up and it is an amazing feeling to know that you are a part of my dream! All donations will go toward air fare, accommodations, meals, and travel expenses with any extra funds going to pay tuition for ongoing dance instruction (at the National Dance Institute in New Mexico) and or my college account which is woefully small.
