Send Tubman to Mexico!
Organized by: Gabrielle Schiavenato
Traveling. Social Work. Two of my biggest passions coming together at last! This July, two weeks to be exact, I will be traveling the 19 hours by car into Baja Mexico with residents of Tubman House to help build an orphanage for disabled and homeless children. Tubman House is a transitional living center in Sacramento, California for homeless parenting youth where I have the privilege to go into work every morning and become a part of their journey as they strive to start living instead of simply surviving. Help me raise the funds we need so I can help them conquer goals they never thought possible. For most of these young moms and dads visiting another country is on their bucket list but until now they have only ever dreamed of it becoming true. To be able to share such a strong passion of mine with them would be one of the greatest achievements in my life. With this trip they will also be exposed to a new beautiful culture, and to a community in severe poverty that they will have the opportunity to make an important impact towards. We will be working on building the physical structure of the orphanage, giving a home to the many homeless orphans as well as enjoying their company while laughing and playing with them throughout our stay. Our Tubman residents will become empowered and enriched like never before as they learn new skills ranging from building a roof from scratch and crossing a US border, to ordering authentic tacos solely in Spanish. Every dollar that is raised will go directly towards funding our travel down there, room and board expenses as well as supplies we will be bringing. This trip to Mexico is only the beginning of combining social work and traveling the world for me. Join me in helping send Tubman to Mexico! And quickly as we leave in two weeks! For donations of $25 or more: Grace Loescher (my roommate, best friend, and co-leader for Mexico) and I will send a personalized improvised song just for you (or whoever you choose)! For donations of $50 or more: the above improvised song, as well as a small gift of appreciation from Mexico!
