I Love someone with Autism: #SendAnthonyToCamp
Organized by: Anthony Agosto Jr
Anthony Agosto Jr is a 17 year old vibrant, smart, witty and loving young man who has Autism, although it is clear that Autism does not have him. Despite the doctors' prognosis, he has surpassed all the limitations they set. He desires a normal life and is very opposed to labels. In fact he doesn't even like to be referred to as Autistic. As he once put it, "I am ME, just me," . As a family we have embraced his differences and LOVE the fact that he sees the world from a different angle. Very often that angle teaches us, makes us laugh at how true and beautiful it is and makes us all better people for having him in our lives just as he is. Although Anthony excels in speech, imagination and creativity he still struggles with confidence and social skills. We can see his desire for a group of friends and even a girlfriend! As a family we want to do whatever it takes to prepare him for life as an adult. He hopes to attend college, have a job and live independently one day. However, the truth is simple tasks that we all take for granted like cooking and balancing a check book can be very difficult for a person on the spectrum. Without specialized intervention most children with autism would not be able to live as independent adults. Camp CIP is a camp that assists children on the spectrum with life skills, socialization, budgeting and so much more. CIP is a great opportunity for Anthony to gain that confidence he lacks. To meet peers like him and to experience college dormitory life. Autism does not define him he his so much more, he writes, he has a blog popcornthemovie.com where he reviews movies. The site really brings out his humor and his personality. We have created this bio about Anthony in order to raise the funds needed to help us get him to C.I.P this summer. No donation is too small and every cent is greatly appreciated.
