I'm raising money to help the high school student I mentor, Briana, get to Costa Rica this summer for a Spanish immersion & service program through The Road Less Traveled. Her tuition is paid for via a grant but her mom can't afford to cover the flight and other costs associated with an international trip.
Briana lives with her single mom and two brothers in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood of Chicago. Because her mom works so hard to support their family, she leans on Briana to help out at home. She's frequently taking care of her younger brother, cooking meals, cleaning up, etc. all while maintaining an A average. Her mom worries about her safety so she doesn't let her travel around the city alone. She's had to grow up faster than most kids and is very responsible. She even uses her babysitting money to help out with family finances.
She is a junior at Holy Trinity High School and apart of the Partnership to Educate and Advance Kids (PEAK) where she receives a full scholarship and a mentor (ME!). To be apart of PEAK, students must come from low-income households and be B/C students. Briana has blown the 2.0 GPA requirement out of the water! She's at the top of her class and a bit shy, which is why going on this trip would be very worthwhile.
I'd love to be able to help Briana expand her world view outside her struggling Chicago neighborhood. The tuition is covered through a grant, so she'll need the funds to cover:
Flight - est. $650
Passport Fees - $105
Travel Insurance - est. $50
Spending Money (19 days) - $300 (about $15/day)
Exit fee from Costa Rica - $29
Briana and I appreciate any help you can offer!
Anything raised above and beyond the $1134 needed will go to cover the fees associated with this site. If there's any leftover, it will be put into a savings account for her to use in college.
Thank you for helping me provide an experience of a lifetime for a deserving young girl!
