THE STORY:

5 dynamic Maine students have been nominated to attend the Global Youth Leadership Forum in New Delhi, India this March! These student leaders have been nominated to participate in the GYLF as delegates for youth in Maine because they exemplify leadership and are already serving their communities through peace building initiatives. Katie volunteers in the Westbrook Correctional facility leading healing circles for the Wabanaki inmates incarcerated there. Jason facilitates job training to recently released inmates, Samantha volunteers in the recovery community and is trained in emergency preparedness and Jill and Ian are involved in community wellness and Permaculture initiatives. This is already a powerful group of young people who we can support to go even further! As a community we share a responsability for nurturing young leaders in our State of Maine. The estimated costs for the plane fare and program is $2,500 per student. Providing these Maine students (Katie Tomer, Samantha Hanson, Ian Johnson, Jason Lesaldo and Jill Keen) with the opportunity to attend theGYLF and World Cultural Festival will enrich their lives tremendously, promote cultural exchange and expand their leadership skills and contribution to our society.

We can't all go represent Maine in the largest peacebuilding gathering the world has ever seen- but we can support these powerful young people to do it for us!

About The GYLF: Global Youth Leadership Forum for Peace building and Social Change event brings together youth leaders from around the world - as well as leaders from academia, business, government and civil society - who are doing work to build peace through education, service and social change initiatives.
