Help send Jennifer to Kenya with SERV International
Organized by: Jennifer Felton
EVENT DATE Oct 17, 2015
October 17th - 28th I will travel across the globe with SERV International to one of the most desolate places in Africa. I know there are inherent risks, I know it is hot, I know there are mosquitos, I know there are diseases, I know there is no sewer system, I know that my bed won't be comfortable, I know the food won't be great, I know I'll have minimal communication to friends and family back home, I know I'll be exhausted, I know I'll witness great sadness... But, you see, that's okay. This is not about me, it is about doing something way outside of my comfort zone to make the lives of others better.
We'll be bringing 5 orphans from the Kenyan slums and remote villages (where they're lucky to eat) to the amazing House Of Hope Orphanage in Lodwar, Kenya. From an existence of desperation and hunger; to a life of love, education, and a full tummy. Also, we are bringing much needed food relief to thousands of impoverished people.
When people ask me, 'why travel to Kenya when there are so many people in the U.S. who need help?' I can only respond with this:
1. I feel compelled to go; it is a feeling beyond which I can explain - when you feel something this strong, you don't ask questions, you just go.
2. Lodwar, Kenya is filled with people who will never have the opportunity to suffer a 'first world problem.' Having someone come from across the world simply to spend time with them, feed them, minister to them, show them love and that THEY matter can quite possibly be the most cherished experience of their entire lives. Think about that for a second...
I can't predict the future, but, in my gut I know that this is just the beginning; a catalyst to a long and meaningful journey. Getting there this first time is the first step. -Isaiah 6:8
