Send Lara to the NWSA Conference
Organized by: Lara Abiona
My name is Lara Abiona and I am a rising junior at Trinity College, where I am double majoring in Sociology and International Studies. I am raising money to attend the National Women's Studies Association conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I consider myself to be a feminist, mainly because I believe that both men and women, as well as the world, can benefit from gender equality. At Trinity College, I am the Vice President of Zeta Omega Eta, a non-traditional feminist sorority, and a discussion leader at Women and Gender Resource Action Center (WGRAC) where I, alongside my peers, work to create spaces on campus for discussions that allow those of all identities to be heard. I also aspire to be a civil rights attorney and use my own voice to ensure justice for others.
This conference, which will go from November 13-November 16, 2014, is an annual conference of feminist scholars from across the United States. Renowned feminists and social justice advocates such as Angela Davis and bell hooks, the keynote speaker, will be in attendance. At this year's conference, the attendees will discuss the importance of maintaining their voice as feminists in all spaces in order to support inclusion and justice for all people. I believe that attending will help me improve my service leadership by learning how I can keep my voice across all domains and help others do the same. When I arrive to campus, I intend to share my experience with the other members of the Trinity community in a talk or discussion.
The balance that I'm currently responsible for raising is $745. I now ask that you help me to make this incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity a reality with a donation of ANY size. Thank you so much for your support!
