THE STORY:

Mia wants to do a course abroad in May/June 2014.
Program Description This interdisciplinary travel study course will introduce students to the link between Irish literature and history. Through readings, lectures, workshops, seminars and site visits, students will explore how Ireland’s writers have responded to major political and cultural developments over the past two centuries. Coursework Topics will include The Great Famine, The Free State, The Role of Women, Church and State, and the Partition of Northern Ireland. Readings will include James Joyce: Dubliners, Ulysses, William Butler Yeats: Selected Poetry, Prose and Drama, John M. Synge: The Playboy of the Western World, and various contemporary writers. Course Design The course will begin at CSM’s La Plata campus with a two-day session of intensive readings, discussion and orientation. The class will then relocate to Ireland for 12 days of lectures, workshops and site visits. The course will end with another two-day session back at CSM during which students will present their final projects. Accommodation Students will be housed in fully-furnished, en-suite single rooms in the University College/Dublin and National University/Galway residence halls, sharing kitchen and living areas. The accommodations include wireless internet service and washing machines. Meals are included. Transportation Airfare is included. A Dublin bus pass is included, as well as other in-country travel.
