BENEFITING: Imagine Scholar Inc
When I returned to Imagine Scholar in January 2015, Portia was an intern tasked with helping me serve my students, among other things. As my mom might tell you, I am not the most organized person, but Portia has not only assisted in math classes, she has helped me stay focused and has kept up with me and my train of thoughts... not an easy task!
Portia has spent time this year helping me learn the local curriculum as well as lead math classes. Portia has shown incredible wisdom and personal accountability in being prepared and valuable in meetings, discussions, and class. She received high marks in high school due to her passion for hard work and determination. Portia has been more than an intern, however. She is my coworker, my friend, and my partner. I run every idea and every thought by Portia. We truly work as a team, and I am hoping to give back to her by helping her get to and be successful at university.
Portia and I are similar in that she has a passion to help people. She wants to study dentistry or audio and speech therapy to benefit her underserved community. Audio and speech therapy is dear to my heart, as I am where I am today in part to help such as speech therapy as a child and hearing aids as an adult.
With YOUR help, I am hoping to fund Portia Ngwenya’s additional university costs. Portia has been accepted to the programs she has applied to, contingent on her NBT (SAT-like exam) scores. Portia will be able to receive government loans from the school for tuition, but they do not kick in immediately and do not cover other needs such as transport to the university, university fees, and food costs. We all know the importance of meals in university.
Help me give back to Portia and support her quest for higher education !
