BENEFITING: Tennessee Respite Coalition
Like many other boys his age, 8-year-old Thomas is looking forward to his summer break. He has spent the past two summers attending a day camp for children who have special needs, and he hopes to go again this year. Even though summer is still a few months away, he is already talking about spending time with friends he made last year. But if you ask Thomas what he looks forward to the most? “The swimming!” he’ll say excitedly. “And the snow dogs. I love to hug them.” The caring staff pays close attention to his needs, and he gets to join other children with disabilities in fun activities that develop his physical, emotional, and social skills. When Thomas returns to school each fall after an eventful summer at camp, his teachers are astounded at the changes and progress he has made, says his godmother and legal guardian, Stephanie. Since her husband died a few years ago, she is Thomas' sole caregiver. His camp participation allows her much-needed respite time to run errands and continue working her part-time job during the summer.
The Tennessee Respite Coalition (TRC) wants to help send Thomas back to camp again this summer, but we need your help! We must raise $400, the cost of Thomas' day camp. You can contribute by donating just $10 – every little bit helps! Anything over that amount will go to help others like Thomas' caregiver, Stephanie, receive respite from the TRC. Thanks for your support!
