BENEFITING: Wish of a Lifetime
In October of 2013, volunteers from Lockton Companies in Denver went to a local senior-serving community, Sloan's Lake Rehabilitation Center, to play bingo, go on walks, and most importantly, talk to seniors about their hopes and dreams. The volunteers found Velma, and loved her story:
Velma raised her two sons on her own, after separating from her first husband. She always worked hard to get by, which meant that she continued working until she was 75. In addition to raising her two boys, she volunteered at her church with the women's group, bible study and the choir. Her second husband, who she met when her boys were in their 20's, passed away several years ago. Family is very important to Velma, and she is proud of her youngest son's service in the Navy. He was stationed on the East and West Coasts, and traveled the world on the USS Enterprise. He spent a short period of time at home in Denver, before moving to North Carolina in 1996. Since he moved, Velma hasn't been able to see him very often, and she longs to visit his home and meet his girlfriend and her two children, and see the life that he has built for himself. She's never been able to visit him in North Carolina, and she last saw him about three years ago. With your support, Wish of a Lifetime will send Velma to see her son at his home in North Carolina this spring!
