We have located a site for the first co-housing build. I have toured the property and have addressed the city to find it's zoned use as appropriate.  See More

As a former director of social services for the elderly, I was made aware of the housing crisis that affects all seniors equally, regardless of economic status. Elderly individuals are being misplaced with little options to living arrangements as they age. Without conducive options many become institutionalized in skilled nursing facilities and assisted living. Co-housing is a timeless concept where individuals come together in a close community to care, and support each other as they age. While still maintaining their atonomy in the privacy of their own homes. This fundraiser will help to secure the land needed to provide the first build. Fact is many do not downsize early enough and find themselves in homes they can no longer adequately function in (moving beds to main floors because they cannot ambulate up stairs) Eventually we will all face this reality. Without the availability to remain independent as long as possible, physical and mental health decline at a rapid pace. I have watched individuals who have worked their entire lives to secure homes and a false sense of security for their aging years. Only to loose it all to short stays in skilled nursing, which run 10,000 + a month ( thinking their insurance or long-term life insurance will be there to cover the cost) People would be appauld to know after years of paying premiums to the same company, how little they will cover when they need them most. Or they move into assisted living at 4,000+ a month, only to find themselves homeless when the money runs out. Simple accidents like a broken hip turn to catastrophic and irreversible events, as insurance companies won't always cover the recommended recovery plans, sending seniors home to soon and leading to further accidents. Rehospitalization cycles begin, trauma sets in leading to dementia and worse-total decline of the person and they become prisoners in the system. Seniors who are able to function but lack funds to even rent an apartment end up stuck in skilled nursing and they become institutionalized. The state and federal governments are funneling outlandish amounts of money to house them, as discharge housing isn't available. This project will provide a tiny homes community for our aging population. Functional and affordable homes of comfort with added measures of support. Allowing individuals to maintain their autonomy and independence for life.
