BENEFITING: SENIOR OUTREACH SERVICES
EVENT DATE: Sep 10, 2013
Senior Outreach Services is excited to be a part of this Challenge. More importantly, all dollars donated will help SOS help low-income older adults stay at home and engaged in their communities. We were founded in 1979 on the principles of African village life in which a community reveres and cares for its elders. Our mission is to help older adults and their families improve their health, independence and quality of life through community outreach and support.
Every dollar donated helps us prepare nearly 91,000 meals to homebound and nutritionally at-risk elders each year; helps elders remain independent and at home with nearly 15,000 hours of homemaking and personal care; and helps more active older adults maintain their health and independence with over 1000 hours of health and wellness activities and programs.
Our seniors are able to stay engaged with the community. They often participate in intergenerational activities with students from elementary school through college. Through music, art, tai chi, fitness or line dancing, our seniors are regularly showing the 'young ones' how to age successfully.
