Latina Women Empowerment

SEPA Mujer Inc. is 501(c)3 We are a non-profit Organization community-based dedicated to the empowerment of Latina immigrant women through education, advocacy, legal rights and leadership. We believe by empowering and handing the Latina woman resources and tools needed to become exemplary role models they will therein impact and inspire their own children families and friends ultiametly generating a better and birghter future of generations to come. By learning to advocate for their rights, we will be able to impact the role of the woman in households, communities and therein take control of our voices in larger political and governmental systems. Our mission is to raise and unite our voices. We stand to be heard, and contribute to the social, governmental and political systems in which we live. We strive to nurture and improve physical and emotional security, self-esteem, legal status, and economic independence by way of education, friendship, capacity building workshops advocacy, community organization and legal representation. We aim to highlight the value, role and development of Latina Immigrant women in Long Island.

SEPA Mujer has been working to support Latina immigrant women on Long Island since 1993, bringing together community member and advocates to push for social change, speak out against injustice, provde access to oppurtunities and services and take a stand against domestic violence and other abuses. We work with individuals, partnerships and organizations (immigrant rights, civil rights, and domestic violence based). We have educated hundreds on basic legal rights. We have developed a leadership program, building capacity for community members to participate in civic, economic and political life on Long Island.

We are able provide legal services for victims of crime, these special immigration provisions for survivors  include victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking.  When Congress recognized that abusive US citizens and legal permanent residents were using their control over their spouse’s immigration sponsorship as a tool for manipulation and abuse, they began to carve out exceptions in the law under VAWA Violence Against Women's Act.

Marcia E. SEPA Mujer Leader/Volunteer

“Yo conoci la organización de SEPA Mujer en 2011. Cuando

hubo un taller sobre immigración  apredí sobre la ley de

VAWA (Violence Against Women’s Act) y sobre otras leyes

defenderme, proteger a mis hijos y no tener miedo!”

“I learned about SEPA Mujer in 2011. When there was a

workshop on immigration, I learned about  VAWA and

other laws that I did not know about. This impacted me

and made me want to learn more. I was also very impressed

about the organization’s mission to help women victims of

domestic violence, educating and helping these same

women to excel though advocacy trainings. For the first time

I felt supported as a Latina and Immigrant woman within this

network of women who are now more than my friends. Now I

can advocate for myself , protects my children  and I’m not
