BENEFITING: The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp
EVENT: Team HITW NYC Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
Chelsea and I have decided to make our first ever attempt to run a full Marathon for charity and we decided to go for the BIG one... The New York Marathon! It is a little crazy, as we only have three months to train. But we are super excited by this opportunity to make a difference.
We are also dedicating this attempt to finish the race to our dearest Shuen Hooi Yeoh, who lost the good fight to cancer last year. She inspired us in many ways during her long fight... Including encouraging us to try new things such as running a race, trying out snowboarding, seeing the world and taking better care of ourselves.
I had the opportunity to run my first ever half marathon in Luang Prabang last October for Shuen and she was there supporting me via whatapps and Facebook messages. This time round, we are sure that Shuen will be looking out for us as we run through the five boroughs of New York on 2nd Nov, 2014.
Our chosen Charity is The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
Your support will help The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provide "a different kind of healing" to more than 20,000 children and families battling serious illness each year, completely free of charge
We chose this charity because we (including Shuen Hooi) are HUGE supporters for causes that support children and we know that Shuen always wanted to do more for children related causes if she got better.
Our Minimum Fundraising Commitment to participate in the race is $3000 USD per person. If you can and would like to donate to our attempt and fundraiser, please click on the donate button on the right of this page.
No matter how big or small the donation may be, we are grateful and appreciative of your support. If not, you can still support us by joining us for a training run or just keep us in your thoughts and wish us good luck!
HITW: Our Purpose
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is dedicated to providing “a different kind of healing” to seriously ill children and their families throughout the Northeast, free of charge. It’s a community that celebrates the fun, friendship and spirit of childhood where every kid can “raise a little hell.”
To ensure that every child with a serious medical condition has the chance to experience the world of possibilities that camp has to offer. Through the generosity of others, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp community provides this unique healing experience to kids in need and their families, including those who may not be able to come to Camp.
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp was founded in 1988 by Paul Newman with one simple premise in mind, that every child, no matter their illness, could experience the transformational spirit and friendships that go hand in hand with camp.
Paul Newman, while a successful actor, was also a visionary with the heart of a child. His personality, playfulness and mischievousness are infused within every corner of Camp, from the pirate flag he raised on the tree house to the days he spent on the lake fishing with campers.
With unobtrusive expert medical care, it was Paul’s dream that Camp would provide seriously ill children with a fun-filled experience defined by compassion, laughter and acceptance.
