BENEFITING: 4 PAWS FOR ABILITY INC
Service dog training is life-saving and expensive. It can take more than $20,000 to raise, train and place a service dog. 4 Paws trains for children with disabilities and Vets. So when you give to 4 Paws you support that mission.
We need to raise $6500 for our daughter's next service dog. All proceeds are tax deductible (to 4 Paws for Ability). Be sure to tell 4 Paws you are donating in the name of Bekah Hemenway. Visit 4 paws: http://www.4pawsforability.org
Bekah's current service dog has developed arthritis of the spine and is not trained for seizure alert. He has been working for her since December 2006 and we could not do without him. However it is coming time to retire her current dog. When he does retire he will still remain with us being loved and cared for the rest of his life...
Bekah came to us with neurological damage as a result of pre-adoptive abuse and neglect. Recently she has also developed epilepsy. This is something her current dog is not trained for but her next dog will alert us to her seizures before they happen or let us know for example she is having a seizure in the middle of the night. He will also be trained for other jobs that her current dog does..
She cannot speak, but does use sign language. Her next dog will also be trained (his commands) for sign language - this should add another layer of independence for our daugher because the special training will enable her to do some handling of her own dog.
We are committed to raising the rest of the funds. If we can do it by the end of the year, she will be scheduled for a class within approximately 9-10 months.
Her big sister wrote a song for her about Bekah's very close relationship to Griz, her very special service dog as part of a fund raising campaign but we are still $6500 short of our goal to get her scheduled for her service dog.
Please donate and help Bekah get her dog.. Remember to mention Bekah Hemenway when you donate. You can donate several ways:
