Service Learning in Puerto Rico
Organized by: Nilsa Jenkins Luna
EVENT DATE Apr 19, 2017
At the National Academy Foundation High School, we strive to provide students with opportunities that will help them acquire knowledge and develop skills necessary for college and career readiness. To help our students become global leaders we want to provide them with a service learning opportunity in Puerto Rico. This trip will allow students, who have never experienced life outside of Maryland, to examine another country’s culture, economics, language and history. Despite the lack of educational resources, drug-ridden streets and poverty stricken neighborhoods, our students work hard to combat the negative representations of Baltimore cast by the media. Their tenacity and positive outlook inspires us to do better in providing them with a rich learning experience that will positively impact their life trajectories. Travel is a transformative learning experience that is not afforded to many of our students. But with your financial contribution our students can see this opportunity come to fruition. So please, help us raise enough to cover the travel expenses (flights, accommodations, and daily breakfast) of 20 wonderful students.
