Service Cat Amani's Surgery

Organized by: Katrina Smith

I miss my biscuit maker and unoffical face washer which are two of Amani's favorite things to do when cuddling. I rescued Amani and started training him to aid me due to my disability. Amani was very responsive to training and very loving and gentle. One of his favorite tasks is to aid in my mobility/exercise program since I have had surgery on my knee and spine. Amani gives me love and courage especially when I am tired or in pain, he helps me keep going when times are tough. Here is a link to Niko and Amani's facebook page: Amani and Niko-san (my other service cat) were with me on our evening walk when we came upon a feral cat on the parking lot wall. I tried to get the boys on the same side of a car and back to the appartment, but the cat disappeared over the wall and then Niko-san turned on Amani and they were rolling and fighting in an instant. At first inspection both boys seemed fine, just a bit of damage to their harness which may have prevent more damage. Amani had a few surface scratches near his tail so it seemed that he was not badly hurt. During the a morning walk I noticed a lump on Amanis leg and new the abscess could rupture at anytime so I found a great emergency vet (Retired service man who was the vet for the military K9 dogs) who was available right then as my regular vets surgery schedule was full. Any donations will go to cover the costs of Amani's surgery bill and medication. There should not be any problem with Amani's mobility eventhough the wound is on his rear limb. The vet will keep Amani over the weekend for observations and it would great to be able to cover the bill when I pick him up. Niko-san needs his buddy back and was confused on the way home without Amani by his side. I was too young to retire but when I was injured 15 years ago the accident took away my ability to work and I have to strive daily to keep my mobility working and improving so in the future I can get back into the workforce. Living on Social Security Disibality Insurance is very difficult in California and there is little room in the budget for huge vet bills, so any assistance will be of great help to cover Amani's surgery bill. Thank you
