Service Driven is the name for a road trip that is meant to be a cross between voluntourism and service learning. Jay and Sharon will be traveling through the U.S. and Canada in their Toyota Rav4, volunteering along the way in each state.
We are volunteering as part of this trip for a few reasons:
1. Volunteering is what we do. See About Us.
2. Volunteering is a great way to learn about a community and see it from a different perspective.
3. We will be receiving a lot of generosity on this trip from friends, family, and strangers and we would like to give back. In addition, we will be having a negative impact on the land in terms of pollution, so volunteering allows us one way to help offset that negative impact.
4. Volunteering allows us to learn new skills and remain active in the skills we already possess. Since we will be on the road for quite some time, we need to stay active, current, and involved.
What type of volunteering will we be doing?
In general, we are looking for opportunities to volunteer that provide housing or at least a place for us to camp. In cities in which we have a friend or relative to stay with, we will also be able to volunteer for one time opportunities that do not offer housing.
The type of skills we can offer are:
 Trail building, trail maintenance
 Bike repair (Jay)
 Public speaking (Sharon)
 Social media consultation and training (Sharon)
 Reading aloud (Sharon)
 Welding (Jay)
 Building lights (Jay)
 Tutoring (Sharon)
 Designing brochures, fliers, webpages (Sharon)
 basic grunt work (we are both young and strong and can carry things, do yard or farm work, etc)
If you have a recommendation for a volunteer project, please
