Chicago Marathon Madness!
November 09, 2017
BENEFITING: Free To Run Inc.
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
I have been running and playing sports as long as I can remember. I tried everything: basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track and field. But I never thought about how lucky I was to have the opportunity to be involved in those sports. It wasn’t until I entered my first race in grad school that I started thinking about how lucky I was to be able to run. Since then, I’ve built on that gratefulness.
I ran the Marine Corps Marathon last October in honor of my Navy POW grandfather, and I have never felt stronger crossing a finish line. So this year, I would like to take my gratitude even farther and run for those women and girls all around the world who can’t or don’t have a chance to engage in athletic recreation.
I am dedicating my two major goal races in 2017, the Frederick Half Marathon (May 7) and the Chicago Marathon (October 8), to Free to Run, a NGO that helps empower and provide opportunities to girls and women around the world to transform their lives through recreation. To help them find the freedom in athletics that I always have.
I’m also setting some ambitious goals: I want to run the Frederick Half Marathon in 1 hour, 40 minutes. This would be a massive PR for me (previous 1:49:12), and I’m training hard through the winter to be able to achieve it.
I’m asking for your help and support to make a difference in the world.
Do you think I can run a 9 minute 12 second PR? If so, can you donate $1 per mile ($13.10) to this amazing charity? If you don’t think I can do it, donate $2 per mile ($26.20) – at the very least, you’re in for some entertainment! Anything you can contribute helps change the world, one opportunity at a time.
