BENEFITING: SOWING SEEDS OF JOY INC
EVENT DATE: Jun 12, 2013
Its very easy for me to say yes to volunteering in Kenya, Papua New Guinea and Haiti, but the fundraising to get there and buy needed supplies is often overwhelming. Since 2004 I have volunteered at least once or twice a year, giving my time, skills and encouragement to women and orphan children in another culture.
Sewing is my passion and I have the heart to teach others in such a way that it encourages entrepreneurship - teach a man to fish. I have seen the impact of teaching women to become sewing teachers in their own country. It has caused new relationships across cultural, religious and racial lines and opened employment opportunities.
June 12-26 is another opportunity for me to step outside my comfort zone and reach out to women in Kenya. Sowing Seeds of Joy is conducting a womens conference that will allow me to give my time to encourage more women in 3 locations.
My personal goal is to raise support that will allow me to get there and buy needed supplies such as sewing machines, fabrics, notions and feminine health products so that those women will know that someone cares enough to come see about them in a tangible way.
