BENEFITING: EZ Kids Creativity Shell
I have been sewing since I was 4-years old. My grandmother taught me how to sew, like her grandmother before her and before her. I never though that sewing would become such as large part of my life, maybe because I’ve always done it, I didn’t think it was such a big deal. When I look at kids these days however, I realize that sewing or the ability to make things is truly become a dyeing art. We as adults are failing to pass down many practical skills to this generation of students. I started the Creativity Shell with a mission to teach trades and practical skills to students. We offer free sewing workshops in public spaces such as schools, public libraries and shelters that rescue children from homelessness and human trafficking. As our organization continues to grow, we will introduce additional trades such as woodworking and silversmithing.
The current sewing/textile arts programs taught by the Creativity Shell are customized and structured based on the age, location and size of the class we are working with. Structured programs are designed to give confidence to the students. On the first day of class, students are usually able to finish a project and take it home. After the first month of instant gratification, students are weaned off simple projects and gradually begin receiving bigger and more complicated projects to work on. By the time the students are enrolled in their second month of our programs, their confidence in using the machine and making small items encourages them to have patience for larger more complicated items.
In addition to the classes we teach, the Creativity Shell is also employing sewing/textile arts teachers to guide our students through our classes. We plan to offer a living wage salary to these creative professionals so our students will have the best artists passing on their trades to the next generation. Your donations will help the Creativity Shell continue to offer FREE classes in schools, public libraries and shelters. Your donation will also be used to hire professional teachers, purchase new sewing machines and pay for the cost of materials and fabrics for our students.
Thank you for SEWPPORTING the Creativity Shell!
