BENEFITING: THE PHILIP HAYDEN FOUNDATION INC
Shepherd's Field Children's Village is an orphanage in Langfang, China, a small city halfway between the port city of Tianjin and the capital of China, Beijing. 70 people between the ages of several months to 20 years call this place their home. Their mission is to provide a safe, loving environment for special needs orphans of all ages until they get adopted.
Unfortunately, after the age of 14, Chinese orphans are no longer able to be adopted. They are turned out of their orphanages at age 15, or if they have any cognitive disabilities, are sent to an institution to live out the rest of their adult lives secluded from the world.
Shepherd's Field is building a vocational center on their 6-acre campus to provide a home for these orphans and to give them training and skills for a job so that they can become happy, functional members of society. Unfortunately, due to insufficient funding, they had to pause construction until they raised the $100,000 needed to restart. ***UPDATE:*** SFCV has received sufficient funds (from others) to restart construction! However, the cost of building the entire building is still looming--so please consider making a donation to give hope to the lives of older orphans.
Visit their official website at www.chinaorphans.org.
P.S. I suppose I can't really call them "children" as I myself am 14, almost 15--so this cause is especially close to my heart. If I had not been so lucky as to have a loving family, I could be sent to an institution to live out the rest of my days instead of looking forward to the 4 years of dances, drama, and homework that is public high school.
