City Word Play is a bi-anual youth street art and spoken word event where youth are mentored, redirected, prayed for, and motivated. For one week youth leaders from across the country will fly into San Francisco, California to lead out youth through praise and worship, art, dance, BBQ, etc. culminating on Saturday September 1, 2012 with this special Word Play event.
YOUTH (18 and under) may be involved by participating in the event being held on Sat. Sept. 1 in spoken word or street art battle. For more info on getting involved please email at email@example.com.
ADULTS can come and support these youngsters in the arts. We always hear about how the younger generations is lost. Well, more often than not it is because they have not been mentored, given an opportunity, or taught. It is up to us...so lets show them out support. With all the arts becoming less and less in school we need to show them an alternative to the streets. We need to show them that they can cope with the struggles through the arts and come out winning, never forgetting the main source of empowerment.
If you would and can help we are urgently still accepting donations and we can write everything off for your taxes. We can use the following items or money for the following items: spray paint, food for BBQ, trophies, prizes, gift cards, stuff for raffles and give aways, etc.
Put together by City Crossroads and Gospel Graffiti Crew in collaboration with Street Art Ministry, Iron Sharpens Iron, and Montana Paint.
Let me know if you would like to make the donation personally at firstname.lastname@example.org.
City Crossroads is a non-profit, public benefit corporation with a ministry to multi-ethnic youth and low-income families in the inner city of San Francisco. The center is located in the heart of the South of Market area (near the Tenderloin district), where over-crowded housing, alcoholism, drug abuse, homelessness, gangs and crimes are everyday problems. Through various programs City Crossroads seeks to meet the real physical, social and spiritual needs of the city’s children and their families. With your help and stretched hands of love and compassion to those who live in this community.
Founded by Pastor Tim Doramus in the fall of 1984, City Crossroads’ mission has always been to provide children in the inner city with a place away from the streets to play. Sixth Street in San Francisco is a place where winos, pimps, pushers and hookers are everywhere. It is hardly a place for young children and youth. Yet thousands make their home here. City Crossroads is a haven to many who come through its front doors for help. Ann Moberg became Executive Director in 1998 and continues the mission with the current staff.
Education is the key to the future for our city youth. City Crossroads invests a significant amount of resources to assist young people in the learning process. A quiet place for them to do their homework is offered daily. The children of San Francisco need alternatives to gangs and the dangers of the streets. This has led City Crossroads to a strong focus on recreational opportunities for youth. Basketball, ping-pong, foosball, and billiards are all part of the weekly activities planned at the center. Throughout the year, various activities are planned to give the youth a chance to interact with others in a positive and fun environment. Trips to the beach, state parks, camp, amusement parks, museums, a week long tent camping trip, a Christmas Party and sporting events are only some of the many activities to promote healthy interaction among young people in the community. We also attend their school programs and graduations.
We are currently open five nights a week serving dinner each night to children who would go without if our doors were not open. We serve over 8000 meals to youth and children each year.
We are having an event on Saturday, September 1s,t 2012. The youth are hosting this event by performing spoken word, painting murals, a carnival for the little ones and raffles. The event will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Our hope is to raise enough money to expand our art program to include music lessons and video technology. Any items you can donate for a raffle or prizes for the youth would be greatly appreciated.
Also, the week leading up to the event we will be covering our building in a new mural to beautify the outdoor space we have for the youth and children. We will need paint, rollers, scaffold, etc. Anything helps.
Thank you so much for considering a partnership with us during these events. If you choose to sponsor this event we will make sure that your name will be included in our media packets, flyers, and video.
