Spring Glen Alliance for Refugee Resettlement (SGARR) is a community-based partnership made up of Spring Glen community neighbors and the Spring Glen UCC Church. SGARR’s mission is to support the resettlement of refugees in the New Haven area, resist xenophobia and racism, and celebrate diversity through focused, local action. SGARR is collaborating with IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services) to achieve its goals.
We are committed to supporting the resettlement of refugees in the New Haven area. We are dedicated to helping one refugee family on their journey from arrival to self-sufficiency in their new home country.
Once we have reached our fundraising goal of $7000, hopefully by February 3, we will become eligible to be assigned a refugee family from IRIS. Once a family is assigned we will have two weeks to find, furnish and stock a home with basic necessities. Funds will be used to pay the security deposit for an apartment or house rental, subsidize the family's rent and basic utility costs for the first few months, and pay for other household items not obtained through donations. We will also help the family with healthcare, education and job placement, and we will welcome the family to our community through hospitality, language lessons and acculturation.
Any money raised above our goal will be used to support other refugee families in collaboration with IRIS. Every (tax-deductible) dollar counts.
