THE STORY:

I'm writing this story until Jenn updates it.

My beautiful, talented, huge-hearted friend Jenn was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer at the then age of 37. She has a husband,Steve, and 3 children (13, 11 and 10). Ovarian Cancer?! Lord, this is NOT possible. This is NOT acceptable. So I started praying. And praying….I mean praying like I've never prayed before. I prayed. But this time I was REALLY REALLY hoping He was listening. Surgery to remove EVERYTHING in there—scheduled for July. Enter more praying. After one of her regularly scheduled blood tests she gets a call. Surgery needs to be now—that Friday or May 30th. Her numbers doubled. So she went in for surgery on May 30th. On June 6th I sat on the phone with her crying. Crying and crying. But these were no longer tears of scared and unimaginable fear. These were tears because He listened. She had just gotten the call--they removed it all, tested it all and they GOT.IT.ALL. No Chemo. No radiation. She is Cancer-Free. Thank you Lord. That was all I could say and think as her and I cried on the phone that day and we decided she now had 2 birthdays in June. June 6th her being given her life back birthday and June 17th , her actual birthday. Just days shy of her 38th birthday my girl was cancer-free!!!

But Jenn had signs. But these aren’t things we talk about. They are embarrassing signs. We talk about breast cancer all the time. Boobs are ok. But cervixes? Or ovaries? Or the whole thing? Nope. We don’t talk about that. So, in my friend Jenn, who is now cancer-free’s words: we need to talk about this. We need to raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer. We need to stop the number of women who are dying from this.

That being said, if you are local, PLEASE consider walking with us and joining our team: Shake Your Teal Feathers. We will be getting shirts and having a blast while walking to raise awareness for Ovarian and other Gynecological cancers. If you aren’t local or can’t participate, or even if you can, also consider donating, no amount is too small. Donations are going to Cancer Wellness Connections which is a Rochester-based 501c3, which provides diversionary activities to more than 15,000 people annually who are receiving outpatient chemotherapy treatments at Rochester are hospitals.

Thank you in advance for ALL your support.  And don't be afraid to talk about those embarrassing or unpleasant problems you might have.  Talking about it just might save your life too.
