Shana's Dream of Homeownership
Organized by: Shana Wright
My name is Shana Wright. I am a widowed mother of two wonderful teenagers. Twice in the last 10 years, I've been the victim of foreclosure due to circumstances beyond my control. The first time was in 2008 when my husband suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage and almost lost his life. He miraculously made a full recovery but due to his lost wages and medical bills we were unable to keep our home. The second time was when my husband passed away from colon cancer in 2012. Again, due to lost wages, medical expenses, etc, we lost our home. I lucked into a rental home after that, but because of my own illnesses I was unable to afford to keep that home as well. I am in the process of applying for Disability, again. I have debilitating pain in my arms, hands, and back as well as exhaustion and have been to over a dozen doctors in the last year and all we've come up with is " some kind of connective tissue disorder". I am currently renting a home in Rock Hall, Maryland which the landlord has graciously offered to sell to me under market value. However, given the lack of income and my damaged credit, there is no possible way that I will be able to obtain financing. All I want is some stability for my kids. They've been through so much and we've had to move so many times, that we all lack a sense of security. That's all I really dream of. Not having to worry about keeping a roof over our heads. I'm sure many of you can relate to that. Please, please, help us in our quest for homeownership. Thank you.
